This is a graded 1908 Half Sovereign from Melbourne. The coin was struck during the reign of Edward VII and features the St George and the dragon design on the reverse.
Half sovereigns are struck from 22 carat gold and contain 0.1177 troy ounces of the precious metal.
In 1908, all the branch mints in Australia produced the half sovereign. The Melbourne branch mintage figure released for the year was 405,034, however this number did include a number of 1907 half sovereigns. Therefore, making the true mintage figure unknown.
Obverse
The obverse portrait was designed by George William De Saulles. It shows King Edwards VII, facing right. The legend reads:

Reverse
The reverse is the iconic St. George slaying the dragon. This was designed by Benedetto Pistrucci. Above the date, the a raised letter M can be found - this is to show it was struck at the Melbourne Mint.
